an-instagram-obssession
An Instagram Obsession

I’m not what you would call a social media junkie. I use Facebook mainly to remind myself of birthdays, and I never really got into Twitter. I know I have a Google+ account but am not quite sure the purpose. However, I do have two social media sites you’ll find me on more than I’d like to admit: Pinterest and Instagram. I’m sure this has to do with both avenues being completely visual, which appeals to the artist in me.

One of my favorite things about Instagram is that even though I’m not the most talented photographer, I can make my pictures attractive by cropping them in an interesting way or applying a fun filter. I’m also able to find a lot of inspiration by looking at the photos of other Instagram users.

When I saw how many art supplies were being created specifically to use with Instagram pictures, I knew I had to try some out. I was completely charmed by We R Memory Keepers’ Classic Leather Album. The album measures in at 4 x 4" and contains sleeves that have 2-inch square pockets. For one page, I printed a picture of my dog and cut it into 2-inch squares. I reassembled it in the pockets. On another page, I printed one of my wedding pictures and cut it into 2-inch squares, discarding the right-side pieces. I then cut paper scraps to size to record my journaling. The way you can mix and match pictures and paper are endless. Because I want to use this album to keep record of our first year of marriage, I decorated the album cover with a swipe of paint and then added an overlay that I had stamped “Our Story” on.

Following our wedding, I wanted to send some thank-you notes to express our gratitude for all the help and love that was given to us on our special day. I printed an image of us and adhered it to square-shaped cards. On top of the image I layered a punch-out frame and stamped the word “love” on it. To add a little more interest I added a strip of washi tape to the top and bottom of the card. I also created a card to send my parents while we were on our honeymoon in Kauai.

I’ve seen countless ideas online on ways to use your Instagram photos, so these are just a few of the options. You can also turn them into mini art canvases, magnets, and so much more. You are only limited by your imagination!

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0659/5546/3319/files/PROJ-0913_An-Instagram-Obsession-by-Christen-Hammons_600x600__53410.1558402842.1280.1280.jpg?v=1746793146
