Mine is dyed with spray inks to give it some added depth. Using markers, color a bit on the plain muslin; this helps it blend with your page a bit more.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eInstead of cutting your fabric, snip a little starter notch and rip it! This gives you great, unfinished edges.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eGlue that fabric down!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUsing acrylics, paint on your page. Let yourself work intuitively, putting down lots of color!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eDoodle or draw on your page! I use a dip pen with Liquitex Ink! - which isn’t real ink, but think acrylic paint.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eCut out a bird (or other shape) from some scrapbook paper and use it as a mask with some Adirondack ink. I painted and stamped on Sticky-Back canvas, then ran it through my Cuttlebug to make fun shapes to stick anywhere on my projects.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUse more of the Ink! or any paint to outline and emphasize your doodle. Don’t be afraid to paint over previous layers.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUsing white paint, I emphasized my bird shape.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eSometimes, you change your mind! I removed one of the shapes after tracing around the circle’s inner edge with white charcoal.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eMore doodles!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eShiny foil shapes are simple yet striking on a page as random embellishment. Simply cut out the shape you’d like and rub it onto the page. Then peel off the top protective bit and lay down foil in the color of your choosing. Rub with a finger and voila! Cute shiny foil on your page! I just love new discoveries like this!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eBalance your page with another shape, if necessary. I’m a nut for scalloped circles, and added half of one. I then decided to color in my girl’s hair using the eyedropper from my ink.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUsing your favorite pen (or, as I did, pen and ink), spill onto the page. Don’t think in lines on notebook paper - go all over. Rotate your journal, trace around shapes, alternate sizes. You can use a sponge to spread it around, then go over it again to remove excess paint.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eCover this all with white paint or gesso. If there's a collage element under there you want to be able to see, you can wet the sponge and go over the part you like; this will \"reveal\" it through this layer.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eGlue down some more fun bits of collage!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUsing watercolors and your trusty sponge, spread around your favorite colors. This tints everything and allows the paint to seep into the cracks (which give it a cool look!).\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUse patterned tape as funky accents or collage bits.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eCut out the woman from the 7gypsies card and attach red wings with double-sided tape. Then put her down where you'd like her!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003ePut a strip of double-sided tape at her waist and string down the thickest of the fibers. Attach them solidly with the tape. Work in layers, adding the next-thickest, then the strings, always working down from the waist. I find double-sided tape works much better than glue at this point.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eRemove pesky collage element and layer tape and some clear acrylic stamps.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eI use a black pan-pastel to give the woman a bit of a drop shadow using the tools that come with the pastel.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eAttach a card to write on with decorated tape.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eWrite your intentions for the box or an inspirational quote on the card to help give it some good mojo.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eMake the wings pop by outlining them with a Sharpie Paint Pen (water based) or your favorite white pen.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eGive your lady a halo with watercolors or watercolor crayons.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eTint the edges of the box with watercolors in your favorite color.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUse an awl or craft knife to carve some fun border around the bottom edge of your box.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUse the 7gypsies tape around the lid-part of the box's edges. Start with a cut edge against the top of the box, and fold the tape under and into the box.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eAdd last-minute bits!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eThis was the most problematic. My box was too thick to use with the screw that came with my journal knob, so I actually found another and drilled a hole into my box to secure it properly. Which viewers can be advised to do (with the help of a handy hubby or friend).
