So, when working on this group of projects with my Christmas tree in sight, I couldn’t help but go into holiday mode.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e The secret I found to working with metallic colors is to keep it simple. At first I tried to mix gold and silver with colors, and it just looked like a mess. It was too much. Then I tried pairing one of the metals with a neutral color like kraft, white, or black. It was an instant success.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e Most of the projects I made are fairly straightforward and don’t require many instructions. For the gold-tinted ornament, simply remove the top from a clear glass ornament, add a few drops of Alcohol Metallic Mixatives, and swirl around until you get full coverage. To allow the excess ink to drip out of the ornament, I placed it upside down in a glass that had some paper towels in it. Once dry, put the top back on the ornament and hang on the tree. I wanted to use the gorgeous burlap bags to hold a gift, but felt it was a little plain. I used acrylic black paint and foam stamps to stamp the world “Joy” on the bag. The other projects include a glass ornament that I filled with gold and silver leaf trim, a test tube note that was embellished with some twine and tape, and a little gift card holder.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e I’m so glad that I took the plunge and started playing around with gold and silver. I hate wasting paint and ink, so if I ever have extra paint in a brush or ink on a stencil, I’ll rub it on the paper. I’ve made a lot of interesting backgrounds this way. I decided to do use the Kraft-Tex as my medium catch-all. Once I had built up some layers I decided to keep going with my holiday projects and make a gift topper that could also double as a brooch. Using a permanent ink is essential to this. To ensure I didn’t use too much color I colored around the outline of the stamp.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eI then took my Sakura Koi Water Brush and painted over the color, pulling it out to the center. I really liked the look, so I thought I’d pair a few of the birds together to make some wrapping paper. I randomly stamped the birds on a sheet of paper and colored them in using the same technique. Gelatos are water-soluble, so a water brush can be used to give them an extra smooth and creamy appearance, much like the finish of a watercolor.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eWhile playing around with this, I realized how easy it would be to create my own gift wrap this year, complete with matching gift tag.
