Simply cut out the shape you’d like and rub it onto the page. Then peel off the top protective bit and lay down foil in the color of your choosing. Rub with a finger and voila! Cute shiny foil on your page! I just love new discoveries like this!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eBalance your page with another shape, if necessary. I’m a nut for scalloped circles, and added half of one. I then decided to color in my girl’s hair using the eyedropper from my ink.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eUsing your favorite pen (or, as I did, pen and ink), spill onto the page. Don’t think in lines on notebook paper - go all over. Rotate your journal, trace around shapes, alternate sizes. I then pick two to three colors of the Dylusions Spray inks and spray them randomly onto the page. Then, I run a roll of paper towels over the paper once, picking up the excess water and ink. This also helps to blend it. These paper towels can be saved to use in later projects because they look so awesome covered in different colors of inks.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eOnce the page is dry, I either use stamps to add more interest to the page, or I use stencils and spray inks. When I use the stencils, after I’ve sprayed ink onto the page, I place the wet stencil on a different page in my journal. It actually softens up the fabric a bit so it isnt so stiff. Once the bag is dry you can start stenciling! I purchased round stencil sponges, and have really liked the effect I get from “pouncing” paint through the stencil. Because of the build-up of paint I get on the stencil, I also like to flip the stencil and “stamp” it onto whatever surface I’m working on. It’s an easy way to add another layer as well as use up all the paint. The stencil sponges are great because I’m able to use the paint left on them to stamp circles as desired.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eI also have been playing around with adding true texture with stencils. I am able to do that a couple different ways. One way is to emboss a stenciled design by applying a \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/inkpads-and-cleaners\"\u003eVersamark inkpad\u003c\/a\u003e as if it were a sponge through the stencil. I actually could have waited longer for the blue paint to dry because I stenciled over the blue with the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stencils\"\u003eWords to Live By Stencil\u003c\/a\u003e and pink \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/paints\"\u003eacrylic paint\u003c\/a\u003e (using a \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/tools-of-the-trade\"\u003ebrayer\u003c\/a\u003e) and when I peeled the stencil back, I lifted the blue (which was not my intention.) However, I like how my little mistake revealed the raw paper and decided to leave it as is.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e Using the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stickers-and-labels\"\u003eGrafix rub-onz\u003c\/a\u003e, I was able to create my own unique rub-ons with a personal photograph and some text I typed up in a Word document.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e It’s very important to read the directions carefully on the Grafix rub-onz packaging and do a few tests first if this is a new product for you. Just remember to mirror or “flip” your text so that it adheres correctly. You will find in the package there are two different types of sheets, so be sure you print on the correct sheet as the other is the rub-on adhesive. Once the paint has dried, finish with script writing using the same marker to complete a word. Use the paint marker to make small dots and blots on the edges of the pages, just minimally.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e Vanessa also dabbed some very light teal \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/paints\"\u003eacrylic paint\u003c\/a\u003e on the edges of the pages in random consistency. You can add additional journaling, pictures and more to your mini art journal pages or just leave them as is. I’ve found that working on several pages simultaneously keeps me from staying on one page for too long and overdoing it. For this spread, I began by spritzing the pages with water. I went over the ink with a roll of paper towels, absorbing any excess ink. I then used black acrylic paint to stamp various girls along the bottom of the page. I know, I know! But, as a crafter it’s important to work ahead on holiday projects. I really enjoy making homemade ornaments to give as gifts, and I thought Kraft-Tex would make the perfect base for them. To begin, I first cut out two hearts. I then applied a layer of gray paint, and let it dry. Once dry, I used \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/color\/\"\u003espray inks\u003c\/a\u003e, paint dabbers, and \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stencils\"\u003estencils\u003c\/a\u003e to apply a few paint layers. Computer-generated text was also added to the front. To finish, I stitched the heart partially closed with embroidery floss, added stuffing, then finished stitching the heart. For added stability and an extra edgy look I also stapled the perimeter of the heart. I added a bit of embroidery floss for hanging.?\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e It’s common for me to keep sheets of paper out to “clean” my brushes and stencils on. I hate wasting paint and ink, so if I ever have extra paint in a brush or ink on a stencil, I’ll rub it on the paper. I’ve made a lot of interesting backgrounds this way. I decided to do use the Kraft-Tex as my medium catch-all. Once I had built up some layers I decided to keep going with my holiday projects and make a gift topper that could also double as a brooch. To do this, I cut out two flowers from the used \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/paper-collections\"\u003eKraft-Tex Paper Fabric\u003c\/a\u003e, layered them, and added a brad to secure them. For extra dimension, I curled the flower petals. With a pin adhered to the back, this gift topper can also be worn after the holidays are over.
