Using a white crayon, I colored in various areas of the flowers. I then used the alcohol ink applicator with Distress Inks and lightly rubbed the inks over the flowers. This created a “crayon resist” so that where I colored in white stayed white and the rest of the area was colored with the Distress Inks.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e On the rest of the journal page I added various elements including patterned papers, washi tape, stamping and some extra crayon coloring in. On the blue patterned paper I used, I painted over it with a light coat of gesso and water, and on the polka dot paper I covered it with strips of white washi tape. It stands up to an incredible amount of water and variety of mediums with no warping.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eI love the way that is bound, because I find myself getting bothered by the spiral binding that other journals use.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eI love the ephemera pocket that is included, but I did notice that if you don’t cover it up, the folder can fall victim to “over spray” since it does stick out of the journal at the top!\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eMy favorite way to start a page is to completely cover it with water using the Ranger Mini Misters. I then pick two to three colors of the Dylusions Spray inks and spray them randomly onto the page. Then, I run a roll of paper towels over the paper once, picking up the excess water and ink. This also helps to blend it. These paper towels can be saved to use in later projects because they look so awesome covered in different colors of inks.\u003c\/li\u003e \u003cli\u003eOnce the page is dry, I either use stamps to add more interest to the page, or I use stencils and spray inks. When I use the stencils, after I’ve sprayed ink onto the page, I place the wet stencil on a different page in my journal. Add the scallop design (which is a She Art Rub-On) on the edges.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e Stamp various flower and bird images from the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/rubber-art-stamps\" target=\"\"\u003eHow Does Your Garden Grow stamp set\u003c\/a\u003e (using \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/inkpads-and-cleaners\" target=\"\"\u003eblack ink\u003c\/a\u003e and an \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/art-stamps-acrylic-blocks\" target=\"\"\u003eacrylic block\u003c\/a\u003e) on the bottom edges of the house.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e I embellished the house with a door, windows and the “Home Sweet Home” quote. Just simply cut out the vintage text pieces for the window and doors and glue onto the house. I added some random pieces of \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/?route=product\/search\u0026amp;filter_name=8127\"\u003eForeign Newspaper washi \u003c\/a\u003eand some Notebook Paper washi over the text. Then I added some more of the She Art Rub-Ons to create an outline around the door and also over the windows to create the four sections. Inspired by the colorful new book \"Art Doodle Love\", our Shoppe Manager Vanessa Spencer creates a vibrant journal page in her Dyan Reaveley journal with a pop of color and fun patterns.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e She starts by stenciling the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stencils\"\u003eDiamonds Stencil\u003c\/a\u003e design onto the left page with a bright purple paint, and then paints various parts of the two pages with the purple and a rich \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/collections-claudine-hellmuth\"\u003eteal paint\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e \"After drying, the paint appeared far too bright for me so I actually decided to do some 'covering up' with a few layers,\" says Vanessa.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e She glues down some torn vintage ledger paper on parts of both pages, then mixes some \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/adhesives-primers-and-mediums\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eclear gesso\u003c\/a\u003e with \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/paints\" target=\"\"\u003eyellow acrylic paint\u003c\/a\u003e and paints over the “brightness” of the other colors. The clear gesso mixture with the yellow acrylic paint (when dry) creates a really nice “tooth” for journaling, especially with a pencil. Once the yellow has dried she adds a very small amount of \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/paints\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ewhite acrylic paint\u003c\/a\u003e in a few areas.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e To add more texture and interest, Vanessa stencils parts of the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stencils\"\u003eHexagon Stencil\u003c\/a\u003e and the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stencils\"\u003eWell Rounded Stencil\u003c\/a\u003e using a \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/paints\" target=\"\"\u003elight blue acrylic paint\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e After the paint dries, she stamps the large \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/clearly-impressed-stamps\" target=\"\"\u003eCircle Clear Stamp\u003c\/a\u003e with black StazOn onto some of the outer edges of the pages. Just remember to mirror or “flip” your text so that it adheres correctly. You will find in the package there are two different types of sheets, so be sure you print on the correct sheet as the other is the rub-on adhesive. Having just ordered Dylusions White Linen Spray Ink for the Shoppe at Somerset, I wanted to test it out against a bright turquoise and lime background.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e I started by spraying my pages with water (a trick I learned from Dyan earlier this year), and followed by spraying Vibrant Turquoise, Fresh Lime, and Polished Jade Spray Inks all over the page. I then went over the pages with a full paper towel roll, dabbing away the excess ink.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003e I adhered the photo to the left page, and then layered several \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/stencils?limit=100\"\u003estencils\u003c\/a\u003e onto both pages, spraying them with white ink.
